Today, May 6th is National Sauvignon Blanc Day! This is a day celebrated in New Zealand and other countries around the world in honor of tasting and enjoying Sauvignon Blanc!
I thought I would share a few of my favorites that are also a great value. I especially love Sauv Blanc ice cold on a hot day. Refreshing, aromatic and bright! Sauvignon Blanc is a light to medium-bodied dry wine which makes it feel like it has some weight to it but no sweetness. It is known for its acidity which may make you pucker when you drink it.
A great Sauv, on the nose has pungent aromas of fresh cut grass with vegetal, tropical, and citrus notes. On the palate it is highly acidic and mouthwatering with moderate alcohol. Sometimes, Sauvignon Blanc is aged in Oak. Sauvignon Blanc typically comes from producers in Marlborough, New Zealand and the Loire Valley and Bordeaux Regions of France however, it also thrives in CA, Italy, Australia, and Chile.
I just received a bottle of Ornellaia Bianco which I’m super excited to try. It is primarily Sauvignon Blanc blended with Vermentino and Viognier. Mmmm Yummo!
