Behind the Label event with Long Shadows Vintners at The Tampa Club.
Long Shadows Vintners is a collection of seven Columbia Valley wines, 5 of which we tasted, that celebrate the viticultural excellence of the region and pay homage to the internationally renowned winemakers who have inspired them.
I would like to provide my ratings and reviews for the wines I tasted. However, I believe that the scores could have been slightly higher if the wines had been chilled and decanted for a few hours. They were served warmer than I prefer and were not decanted. As a result, I felt that they were not as expressive, soft, and open as they could have been. My scoring and taste usually align more closely with Jeb Dunnuck’s, so I believe that a re-tasting under different conditions would be beneficial. I would appreciate the opportunity to taste the wines again and provide revised scores but as is my scores are as follows:
2022 Poets Leap Riesling, Columbia Valley
Tasting Notes: Citrus, lemon green apple, pear, mineral, honeysuckle and oak
Characteristics: Light, bright, crisp with a rounded finish

2022 Dance Chardonnay, Columbia Valley
Tasting Notes: Oak, vanilla, citrus, apple, pear, toast, and stone fruit
Characteristics: Dry and acidic yet creamy

2019 Pieroutte, Red Wine Bordeaux Blend, Philippe Melka
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, tobacco, leather, earth, licorice, red fruit, and lavender
Characteristics: Bold, smooth, layered with a long leathery finish

2020 Feather, Cabernet Sauvignon, Randy Dunn, Columbia Valley
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, red fruit, vanilla, oak, leather, smoke, spice, and mocha
Characteristics: Bold, full bodied, dry and highly tannic, needs decanting and a chill

2019 Sequel Syrah, John Duval, Columbia
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, cassis, vanilla, oak, leather, smoke, spice and floral notes
Characteristics: Very tight, would benefit from being chilled and decanted for several hours

2019 Pedestal Merlot, Columbia Valley
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, black raspberry, blue fruit, leather, tobacco, spice, floral, licorice and earthy
Characteristics: Open, round balanced, and smooth
