Tonight’s dinner was homemade Szechuan beef and veggie stir fry with jade rice paired with an option of Nebbiolo or Nero D’Avola.
While the Nebbiolo was great on its own especially slightly chilled, the Nero was even better paired with food. The spicy and earthy notes popped and served with the stir fry.
My tasting notes and review of tonight’s wines are as follows:
2016 Donnafugata Mille e una Notte
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, tobacco, leather, earthy, fig, plum, spice, oak, floral, and chocolate
Characteristics: Complex, layered yet balanced with a long smooth earthy, and peppery finish
My Rating: 4.3 / 93 points
2018 Sandro Fay Ca Morei Valtellina Superiore
Tasting Notes: Red fruit, earthy, licorice, vanilla, oak, blue fruit, and floral
Characteristics: Medium body, medium plus acid, great nose, smooth, light, and beautiful
My Rating: 4.2 / 92 points
